The Face–Off
With locations in Augusta, Georgia and Aiken, South Carolina, Hull, Towill, Norman, Barrett & Salley is one of the oldest and largest law firms in the area.
The Augusta offices are located on the 7th and 8th floors of a modern high–rise in the historic downtown area. Architects had drawn plans to replace the space between the two floors with an open, circular staircase and other esthetic design features.
Modern Business Systems arranged the initial meeting with the firm at their request for new furniture for the offices.

The Challenge
The design challenge soon shifted from furniture to function. Modern Business Systems over–delivered by offering design improvements for the firm’s current use of space.
The amount of paper generated each day by a modern law firm can be staggering. At the time, Hull, Towill rented an off–site storage facility for the large amounts of documents and case files they produced. Runners were sent to retrieve important information for the 28 attorneys and support staff of 39, while file cabinets and storage boxes overflowed offices.

The Results
Open, modern work spaces replaced built–in offices and new furniture added comfort and style. File cabinets that had previously lined the hallways were replaced by user-friendly mobile file systems from High–Density and Times Two.
Modern Business Systems also enhanced the prestigious look of the new law offices by adding a semi–circular marble top to the reception desk.
Upstairs, they installed a large conference table made from the same marble. The piece was so large that it had to be lifted by a crane from the street level through the conference room windows!
The result? A beautiful, more functional work space. In fact, Modern Business Systems eliminated the need for off–site storage saving the client thousands of dollars in rent!
The new systems save time, too. Case work that previously had to be retrieved by runner is now just steps away. Space open — case closed!
Soon after Modern Business Systems completed the job for the Augusta location of Hull, Towill, Norman, Barrett & Salley, they were hired to re–design the Aiken offices!
